Sunday, April 23 – Athens, Greece
We arrived at the port of Piraeus this morning. It is a natural harbor and quite busy. They have made excellent use of every square inch. We saw 4 or 5 huge ferries, and several cruise ships. It is very tight, but seemed to be very organized.
When we were just offshore this morning, waiting for the local Pilot to come aboard, in the early morning darkness, I could make out the Acropolis and Parthenon with all the lights. Rather fun! But too far away to photo.
Russ has a cold
again with a nasty cough, so he is staying in the cabin today and I am taking
the included tour. A bit of a drive around, then about 1-1/2 hours at the
Archeological Museum.

The Museum is excellent.
Really enjoyed looking at the displays of antiquities. Nothing newer than about
the 3rd century AD. I listened to the guide for a while as she
explained things, then just wandered off on my own.
After leaving the Museum, we stopped briefly in the Plaka district and walked a couple of blocks to a spot we could see the Parthenon. On the walk back to the bus, I was able to refresh my supply of Euros.
I got back to the ship just in time to join Russ for lunch.
Sunset was
around 8:00 p.m. and we’d been at sea for a couple of hours but were lucky to
catch a spectacular sunset.
