This post is a little out of the norm.
We are in Saudi Arabia for the day, docking a bit after 8:00 this Easter morning. It is very smoggy, so not much to see. Once again, we are in a very industrial port and we are not allowed to walk on the dock. Shuttle busses will take passengers from the ship to the terminal (approximately 10 minutes) where passengers will clear customs/immigration, then board tour busses.
We had decided before beginning this journey that we would most likely not go ashore here. It is a personal decision of ours and we will be interested later today to chat with people that did take the included tours (all that is being offered) today.
As we were aware, ALL alcoholic beverages in the bars and restaurants have been secured and the ship is not allowed to serve alcohol to anyone while in port. It will be interesting to see how long it takes this evening to restock the shelves in the bars.
As it is also the holy time of Ramadan, the Saudis have asked that no one drink or eat anything while on shore. Evidently drinking water while on the busses is acceptable. Everyone must also dress modestly, ensuring that shoulders and knees are completely covered. Most shops will also be closed so for those that really enjoying shopping, they may be disappointed. No jewelry of a religious nature, no tee shirts with slogans, and definitely nothing in the vein of LGBTQ.
So we got laundry done this morning and have enjoyed relaxing this after noon.
No pictures to share.
Well said. Glad you enjoyed a quiet Easter.
