Thursday, May 19, 2023 – Edinburgh, Scotland

This is our last tender port. And we are anchored at New Haven. It is the closest port to Edinburgh. Viking has arranged for a shuttle bus that will take us from the port into Edinburgh. Only about 20 minutes drive.

The port at New Haven. When we got there, the tide was out.

We have made arrangements with a Scottish friend to meet for lunch in Edinburgh. We met Grant and Lynne in Puerto Vallarta many many years ago and have kept in touch over the years. They own a home in a village just outside of Dundee. Dundee is just north of Edinburgh. We have visited them in Puerto Vallarta on several occasions and spent a week with them in April of 2011 at their home in Scotland.

Unfortunately, Grant passed away just a few weeks ago, but Lynne said she would like to get together. She had made a reservation at a restaurant that she knew, that was also close to the shuttle bus stop.

We arrived in Edinburg a couple of hours before our meeting time and wandered along Princes Street. We spent a day in Edinburg in 2011 and had visited the Castle and a part of the Royal Mile. That is considered the “Old City”. Princes Street is in the “New City”. We found a lovely park at the base of the cliff the Castle sits on and enjoyed our walk. The church there (Parish of St. Cuthbert) is from the 1700s and 1800s, but there has been a church at that sight for 13 centuries. The graves and tombs surrounding the current church were fun and the setting was lovely.

Such a peaceful setting

Spring flowers in abundance including many rhododendrons and azaleas.

A lovely fountain

We arrived at the restaurant a little early but were seated immediately. Lynne arrived accompanied by a very good friend. It was great to see Lynne and meet her friend. We visited for a couple of hours, then felt we needed to head back to the shuttle.

A lovely relaxed day and it was super to get caught up with Lynne.
