Wednesday, May 17, 2023 – Ullapool, Scotland
We don’t arrive at Ullapool until around noon. Ullapool is in the Western Highlands of Scotland.
This is another “tender” port, so passengers gather in the Star Theater until their group is called. I have selected an optional tour today as I would like to see more of the Scottish Highlands than what the included tour would provide. This is a somewhat expensive tour and we are disappointed that there were 50 people on the bus. We also quickly learned that our tour guide was not prepared for the day.
This is one of
the few rainy days we’ve had which makes it next to impossible to take photos
from the bus. But I did get to see what I wanted. The Western Highlands are
extremely rugged and mostly barren. Some heather and bracken, but few trees.
Lots of water. Beautiful in its own right.

On the return
journey from the one stop we had, our guide resorted to playing a CD of
Scottish music for us. She also sang a couple of tunes. She did have a good
voice, but the whole tour was less than 3 hours and she couldn’t come up with
enough material.
