Friday, April 28 – Monte Carlo, Monaco
The original
itinerary had Monte Carlo as a tender port. So it was a pleasant surprise when
we were at a dock. And had a beautiful view of the town with all of it’s high-rises.
Property values in Monaco are beyond extreme.
We are
scheduled to take the included tour which is a leisurely paced walking tour of
the old city and should include the changing of the guard. There is a pathway
from the port around “the rock”. Then a combination of escalators and elevators
take us up to the level of the old city which perches atop “the rock”.
Monaco is preparing
for their Formula One Grand Prix race scheduled for the end of May, but the
fencing is already up blocking off views of the race route. If you want to
watch it, you’ll have to pay to watch it. The bleachers are also already
installed.
We arrived at the square for the changing of the guard, but we decided to break off and find a pharmacy. We’ve both got colds again and want to get some over-the-counter meds. That task taken care of, we crossed the alley to a small restaurant and ordered a ham and cheese crepe. It’s been a long time since we have had a crepe and we thoroughly enjoyed it. We then walked back to the ship and spent the rest of the day resting and hoping the colds leave us alone soon.
